Everyone's Federal Credit Union, formerly
Southern Pacific Railway Employees Federal Credit Union
OUR CREDIT
UNION HISTORY
Serving Members since March 20, 1954
S. P. Railway Employees Federal Credit Union was chartered and
opened for business in the home of Jack Collins in March 1954. The
credit union was originally established to serve employees who worked
for the Southern Pacific Railway. The purpose was to provide employees
with loans at lower interest rates and to promote thrift.
In 1957 J. B. Estes was hired as manager and transacted business
across his kitchen table until 1967 when J. L. and Viola Baum followed
suit by allowing members into their home. Jim and Viola moved the
credit union office to the Southern Pacific Railway Depot in 1979.
Ruth Schumacher and Denise Norris Border were the first employees
hired by the Baums. The Baums retired from the credit union in 1981
and the credit union assets had reached $1,700,000. The Baums' were
thrilled when the Board of Directors hired their son, Vic Baum to
replace them. During Vic's employment the credit union merged with
Quay/Guadalupe Credit Union managed by Hortensia and Tony Ortega
and Union County Credit Union managed by Gabriel Santisteven. These
two mergers gave S. P. Railway Employees Federal Credit Union a
community-charter allowing the credit union to serve all residents
in Quay, Guadalupe and Union Counties. In addition, the credit union
moved from the depot location to 224 E. Center. Vic resigned his
position as manager after 17 years and left the credit union with
assets over $9,500,000.
Jack Parsons served as an interim manager through 1998 until David
Knapp was hired. The railroad moved from Tucumcari to Dalhart during
Mr. Knapps' tenure and the name of the credit union was changed
to Everyone's Federal Credit union to better identify the credit
union's field of membership. Mr. Knapp worked for one year then
Jeri Roever took over the reigns as manager. Jeri was instrumental
in moving the credit union to its' current location, 505 E. Route
66 Blvd. Jeri and her family moved to Springer, NM in January 2001
which brings us to our current CEO, Andi Baum, who has been with
the credit union since February 2001.
Under Andi's leadership and the Board of Directors direction the
credit union has introduced the debit card, audio response, Internet
Home Banking, Mobile Home Title Loans and Real Estate Lending. Since
February 2001 the credit union's assets have grown from $7,640,
000 to over $10,000,000.
THROUGHOUT THESE PAST 50 YEARS-the credit union has undergone many
changes. Originally, the credit union offered regular saving accounts
and loans but today we offer several savings and loan products.
Mr. Collins did all transactions by hand on paper but during J.
L. and Viola Baum's tenure new technology was introduced- computers.
Today, the credit union is fully automated offering audio response
and Internet Home Banking.
THE CREDIT UNION HAS BEEN PRIVILEGED TO HAVE MANY VOLUNTEERS SERVE
ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS, SUPERVISORY COMMITTEE, CREDIT COMMITTEE
AND ON NUMEROUS OTHER COMMITTEES. EACH INDIVIDUAL (Staff, Volunteers
and Members) INVOLVED IN THIS CREDIT UNION HAS LEFT SOMETHING OF
VALUE BEHIND THAT VALIDATES OUR HISTORY AND ASSURES AN EXCITING
AND PROPEROUS FUTURE FOR EVERYONE'S FEDERAL CREDIT UNION. |
